According to a new article in the Daily Hive, March will bring the release of a new app that allows users to seek and purchase legal cannabis.

As reported on the Daily Hive, February 20, 2019, by Daily Hive Staff:

Our phones are wondrous little devices. Sure, they sell our location, shopping habits, and personal data, but they also can provide the user with a quick breakdown of boy band 98 Degrees early-2000s rise to fame, so — fair trade.

Now that cannabis is legal and almost all the provinces have physical locations (not you, Ontario), finding the nearest location of weed at any given time can be a real struggle. Most major population hubs have dispensaries operating without licences. BC’s courts have made rulings against the businesses and the City of Toronto continues to fight against them.

Apps like Weedmaps already exist as guides for wanting consumers to find sources of cannabis, but still contains numerous listings of unregulated storefronts and delivery services. For those looking for a 100% government approved listings, there’s Buddy.

Buddy is a new app focused exclusively on Canada’s legal cannabis retail market. Users can browse, select and reserve their pot through the app, skipping long wait times at dispensaries and finding out exactly what products are available before even setting foot in the store.

“Buddy lets you browse current menus from government licensed dispensaries in your area. You can reserve products and build your order online then skip the line-ups when you pick up your order at the store.” says lead application developer David Ramsaran, in a release. “With Buddy, you can browse more strains than you ever knew existed. You can research them before you buy, then rate, share, and review your new favourite strains with your friends afterwards.”

No credit data is collected, and purchases are still required to be made in store, to confirm the age of the user.

The app is set to launch in Alberta in mid-March followed by a roll out across the country in the coming months, according to the company.
